Ero Cras (2011)
The music on this Christmas disc is the result of many years' worth of carol services and concerts, into which we inject a perennial dose of something new. The main goal of all these arrangements and compositions is to throw the words into a new relief. In the case of many of the traditional carols, this sometimes means that even the melody is adapted or discarded and a harmonic language that is entirely alien to the simplicity of the original may be adopted. The idea is that this placing of comfortable old tunes within an (occasionally) uncomfortable tonal context makes you re-interpret the texts that you probably learnt by rote in your formative years, and have (equally probably) thought little about since.
The tracks on this album are either entirely new compositions or new arrangements of traditional works, all by conductor Ben Lamb.
