Juxta Crucem provides sublimely penitential music for Passiontide, receiving excellent reviews from critics such as Jeremy Summerly on Radio 3. Rich and mysterious harmonies from tortured composer Gesualdo contrast with the ethereal Allegri Miserere, the varied textures of Scarlatti's superb Stabat Mater making up the bulk of the disc.
